Relying on Your Higher Self

Yesterday was a particularly hard day…  I had gone three days with barely any sleep.  My two year old son was having trouble sleeping, for what ever reason.  He was waking up every hour, asking for mommy to come comfort him.  So, yesterday was a very emotionally drained day.  I felt lost in emotion and reacted negatively to many situation, especially my children, and the mess in the house.

It wasn’t till later that day, that I began to feel better.  I was at the book store, and just let my heart search for a book.  It led me to a book called, “Opening to Channel, How to Connect With Your Guide.”

I had planned on reading a few pages, just to get an idea of what this book was about.  But an hour later, I was still reading, and I felt like this book was talking directly to me.  I put the book down and decided to connect to my guide, my higher self.  I felt almost pulled into a trance, and internally I asked the questions I really needed answers to.  And I  heard the answers gently coming to me.

Even this morning I did the same thing, and once again the answers came clearly.

I am reminded of how easy it is to get caught up in the daily life.  We all have a to do list, we have relationships, we have hobbies, and so on.  These things take our constant attention, and we can forget to connect daily to our higher self.  My higher self reminded me, “It’s so important to connect to my Guide daily, as this is what keeps me on course, and keeps me on the highest path possible, in all areas of my life.”

I also realize that our children are so much more on point with their higher self, than most adults are.  I am reminded to learn from my children, and not to be scared of raising them completely different than the current norm advices.  As we can see…  the norm is changing, and the norm is not so happy, or successful.  Instead I should be braver, and guide my children according to their higher needs, and passions.

If you are seeking a path to connect with your guides, or your higher self, I highly suggest you pick up this book.  It has made such an impression on me, and I’m sure you will find the same.  I love books that really stand out, that teach me something very tangible that I can apply to my life, and I see this clearly in this book.

Much love to all of you,

Guru Shakti

Being A Mother To Humanity

How has time passed so swiftly, these little feet have grown so big now, these hands were so tiny.  I find motherhood one of the most wonderful, and most challenging things I’ve ever done.  It brings me to laughter and tears faster than anything in my life.

As mothers we wonder, “Is this the right step, am I doing the best i can for my children?”

But what is mothehood?  Lately I’ve been feeling that mother hood is so much more than caring for our own children.  There are billions of people on this planet, so many people who are yearning for mother, for that unconditional motherly love.

When I see a poor man on the streets, lost in sorrow, I know he didn’t have that motherly love, for no man or woman could end up like this, when surrounded by a mothers love.

There is a young girl who lives in our neighborhood, she is alone a lot.  She is an only child, her mother travels all the time for work, her father stays home, but sends her out all day.  She knocks on our door about three times a day, and I see her wondering the neighborhood a lot.

To be honest I found her to be one of the most difficult children, and doesn’t listen very well.  I felt irritated that she would knock on the door all the time.  But then I realized, she is a child, a child who is lonely.  I began to work on myself internally, to be patient with her.  I have begun to look at her as my own child.

As women, one of the most healing actions we can take, is to embrace the Mother within each of us.  Being a Mother has little to do with giving birth, because even women who have never given birth are still Mothers.  God gifted us as creators, we have the ability to make miracles with our love, with our understanding, with our patiance.

There is a whole planet awaiting the wise adults to take back the leadership.  So why not be apart of it in the most natural way, by being a mother to all of humanity, one person at a time.

This means…  accepting yourself, accepting each person for who they are, and for who they yearn to be.

This means…  forgiving the actions of those who know not what they do.  In most cases it’s adult children, people that look like adults on the outside, but are very much children on the inside.

This means… Knowing that God sent you here for a reason, you are a women, you are special, and you can make miracles with your motherly way.

Let’s do this together, in our daily lives, and heal the world in our own way.

Love you my dear Sisters!

Learning The Way of The Eagles

“Woman must grow from Chicks, and into Eagles.”  -Yogi Bhajan

As you begin to trust in your intuition, and trust whole heatedly that you are a wonderful and wise mother,  you will sense the the right moments to challenge your children in a way that will help them grow.

We can learn a great deal from Mother Eagles.  A Mother Eagle, by instinct, knows exactly when to begin teaching her young to fly.

Baby eagles learn to fly primarily by observing their parents. To encourage young eagles who don’t show an interest in flying, the parents sometimes fly around the outside of the nest with food in their claws to coax them to fly.  While food is a great motivator, the young eagles are curious about the world and like to imitate their parents. By perching on a nearby limb with a choice meal, the eagle parents are encouraging their young one’s sense of curiosity until the young eagle begins to leave the safe environment of the nest on its own.

Over the past year, my own confidence has grown.  It’s much easier to sense those areas where my children need to have challenge put upon them, by myself or my husband.

And just like the Mother Eagle whom coaxes her young to fly, here’s two examples of how we have coaxed our children to progress in their lives.

My husband and I practice Kundalini Yoga daily, we do it to balance ourselves inside and out.  For years I felt confused about my approach I should take with our children.  I knew we wanted out kids to practice yoga, not for fun, not for entertainment, but to master their lives.  I felt scared to push them, and as a result of that, the minute they showed any signs of not wanting to do  yoga, I quickly gave in and said they didn’t have to do it.   Not now…   I discovered that I am the mother, it is up to me to show them, and teach them, that yoga is a daily practice, and it’s just as important as brushing your teeth every single day.

I notice that they are enjoying their yoga practice much more now, and they put up very little resistance to me now.  When I say, “Ok kids, time for yoga practice,” they get to it, instead of arguing with me.  I’ve decided that this is the standard in our home, no getting around it.

The same goes with meals.   No longer are their meals served in front of the T.V.  I saw that our children were staring into the T.V. like Zombies, and over eating.  Being a woman that has recovered from Bulimia, It is essential to respect food, and eat like a Queen.  I want that for our kids too.  When it’s time to eat, all electronics go off, and we sit at the table, or they don’t eat.  I notice we don’t over eat, we lovingly eat our meals, we connect, and we all  enjoy it.

Believe me when I say they didn’t want to turn that T.V. off.  We all enjoyed tuning into a good show after a long day.  But every time I turned on that T.V. while eating a meal, I could hear my intuition yelling for me to turn the damn thing off.  Now the connection we are gaining from being together at a dinner table is priceless.  The T.V. can go on after dinner time!!!

I think as women it’s easy to ignore our intuition,  our intuition tries to tell us it’s time to push down upon our children, and help them to fly in different areas of their lives.  Remember you are Mother, you are the primary teacher to your children, don’t be afraid to challenge them, and of course do it with the intent to honor and encourage them.

Faithing Your Mission

“Life Takes Courage, it takes Faith, it takes stepping out into the un known, trusting you will arrive at your destiny.”

-Guru Shakti

You have a purpose, you were born exactly how you were meant to be, and each relationship and experience is perfect for your growth.  When you look into your heart, what do you see?  What is your purpose in this life time?  What is your destiny?  Your path is different than mine, different than your parents, different than your best friends, and that is what makes you unique.

Once you discover what that path is, it can be easy to quiver away from it.  It’s easy to distract yourself from really full filling your purpose because it’s scary to step out into the un known and try new things.  It’s scary to do something different!

Bottom line…  It’s ok to be scared, it’s all a part of growing.  The fear just means you are growing, and you are paying close attention to what you are doing.  Don’t use the fear as a gauge, or a guide.  Instead know that the fear has a message to deliver, get the message and continue forward.

Do you think it was all roses when I began home schooling our kids, or when I began healing from Bulimia, or when I began writing this blog, or when my husband quit his 9 to 5 job to begin our business, when I began wearing head wraps and turbans, or when I began practicing Kundalini Yoga every single morning?  NO WAY, it was scary at times, it was hard as hell sometimes, but it was also bliss full and wonderful too.

Now years later my path is so much clearer and it’s easier to faith my mission!

When you look around at anyone who has fullfilled their destiny, we see stories of overcoming obstacles and striving for what they believe in.  People like Nick Vujicic: a man with no limbs who teaches people how to get up, After being imprisoned for 27 years, Nelson Mandela led South Africa to becoming a multi- racial democracy in 1994, Mother Teressa was a Humanitarian who devoted her life to helping the poor, sick and orphaned in India. She devoted her life to God, Audrey Hepburn was an actress and humanitarian best known for such movies as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Roman Holiday,Sabrina,Funny Face and My Fair Lady. She devoted a great amount of her life working for UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador, and John Lennon was a famous English musician ,singer, songwriter and founding member of the Beatles, one of the most successful bands in history.

Think about the people who inspire you, perhaps you could even put pictures of them up as a constant reminder of why you will be courageous and why you will faith your mission.  Remember you were born by no accident, you are a beautiful part of this world, so let  your true self shine!

Finding Balance As A Woman

Women need real moments of solitude and self-reflection to balance out how much of ourselves we give away. Barbara De Angelis quote

Hello my dear Sisters,

I have written before on the topic of balance in our lives, but this is a topic that needs some steady reminding.  As women we give so much of ourselves, we play multiple roles, and this is all by design.  I wouldn’t have it any other way, I’m wife, I’m mother, I’m Daughter, I’m Sister, I’m Teacher, I’m Artist, I’m Ancient Yogi, and the list goes on.

Each one of us has responsibilities that are important and must be tended to, but what about those responsibilities that are important but weigh on your own personal time?  Lately my heart has been trying to remind me that I need more time to myself.  We have a 2 year old son, he’s so wonderful, so energetic, so curious, and such a night owl.  Some nights I do all I can to get him to sleep on time and then 11:30 pm roles around and he’s just beginning to nod off.  For me this has been causing havoc on my morning Sadhana.  This may sound like an excuse to some people but only getting three hours of sleep a night doesn’t work for me, especially when I need to be fully energized for my two other children whom are both home schooled by myself.

“Ahhhh the wonderful balancing act of a woman!”  I know this is my own situation that needs some new ideas, and I know I have these answers within myself.

As you read my own story I’m sure you can relate.  Perhaps you have an area of your life that needs some new ideas.  Perhaps you can see the need for more time for you to recharge.  It’s all about a balance, and the great news is a new balance can be established at any moment.

Just off the top of my head I can see some new options for myself.  I could make sure he runs around outside enough so he will be even more tired, I could pardon myself and do a shorter Sadhana until he is through this stage, I could do meditation when he naps instead of cleaning house, and I could ask other Yoginis what they have done in these situations.

(Skip Forward a day) After writing this post I decided to give it a day until I finished it. I took to heart the things that I wrote about, and I came up with new ideas that could work. That evening I took my son out to play for an hour, he ran around, he burned off some energy. That evening he fell asleep at 9pm, that’s still a bit late but better than midnight! That evening I did a guided meditation and fell right to sleep, and I was able to wake up and do my full Sadhana. I feel so much better today.

You see this just goes to show, there’s always other options, we just have to tap into our knowing and find them. And it’s absolutely essential for us ladies to have our own time, time of worship, time to take care of our physical body, time to do the creative things we love, and from that time you will have all the energy, and all the grace you need for your life.

Why Is Kundalini Yoga So Special?

My family and I truly love Yoga, but for our family Kundalini Yoga is our Yoga of choice.  After studying other kinds this type of yoga has benefited our growth like none other.  It holds that special place in our hearts.

So the question is, “Why is Kundalini Yoga so special?”

It may be considered, however, that Kundalini Yoga, which was kept secret for a long long time, does hold most of the keys to Yoga on the whole. It is seen as the most integrated of all Yogas from which all other Yogas have sprung from, which is why it is known as the ‘mother of all Yogas’.

More than any of the reasons to practice Kundalini Yoga, it works on strengthening and awakening your spine and your central nervous system to awaken the Kundalini energy, known as the nerve of your soul. This is the real reason why we do Yoga, and this is what no other Yoga will make clear to you, but it is where all Yoga eventually leads to. Why wait!. Within you in a vast  and largely untapped reserve of energy (at the base of your spine) that is waiting to be rediscovered by you. When released it will  give you the energy and creativity to do everything you have ever dreamed of and more. You simply will not believe how differently, how positive, how proactive and creative you start to be in your life once your life force returns (Kundalini) from the day Kundalini Yoga takes root in your daily weekly practice.

In our family Kundalini Yoga has become a daily morning practice.  It’s simply a part of our lives, just as important as brushing our teeth. Kundalini Yoga is so effective, and you will achieve real results very fast! It is the most powerful form of Yoga.

Now days you can buy yoga videos at local health stores, take a yoga class in your home town, pick up a good book, but my personal favoroteit is the practice of Guru Singhs recorded Kundalini Yoga classes.  Guru Singh is a Master of Kundalini so he knows what he’s doing.  I love how he guides you through each pose, telling you what each pose is doing for you.  He encourages us to keep up by reminding us not too just do what’s easy.

Here’s a link to  his site, you can sign up for his pod casts and get monthly yoga sessions sent to you.  When I get a new yoga session I work on it all month to master it, you could do the same.

Baby Wearing Around The World!

When I was pregnant with my third child I read, “Bountiful Beautiful Blissful.  In this book she explains how much mamas and babies benefit from being carried in a sling.  She explained how babies now days are so hooked on plastic, many people use bottles instead of nursing, they use pacifier instead of nursing, strollers instead of slings, and cribs instead of sleeping in bed with mama and papa.

A generation of babies being brought up attached to plastic instead of a human.  Well we are out to change all that, and I’m happy to say that I see first hand how many mothers are making the choice to go back to the way God intended things to be.

Bodhi was our first child to be held in a sling and I love it.  He enjoys his baby sling so much, and even at 19 months I put him on my back ever evening and set out on a 45 minute walk.  I love to go out when it’s dark out, the girls are in bed and it’s just my time with Bodhi.  He usually always falls asleep on my back and I can feel his little warm body, with his slow breath, as he sleeps on my back.

I love these images of women and men wearing baby slings all over the world.  It is only in our modern culture that we push our babes in front of us, instead of wearing them on our bodies.  Just to clarify, I have nothing against strollers, I use one myself sometimes, but baby slings are the way to go in the long run.

I truly suggest that all mamas and papas try it out.  My husband never used a sling but I think there is nothing more awesome than a man carrying a babe in a sling.

I’d love to hear some of your own personal stories of using a baby sling.

Sending love,

Guru Shakti

Supporting One Another

I’ve written about this before, women helping women, supporting one another.  Still I feel the need to shed more light on this subject.

Women were made to be among other women, we were made to uplift and support one another in our daily lives, not to gossip and undermine each other.  I know from experience the amazing things that can happen and be accomplished when a group of women set out to up hold each other and look for the good that each woman brings to the table.

In my own life I deeply cherish the woman friendships that I have.  Sometimes I’m having a challange and I know I need some time with my girl friends.  there’s just something about communicating with a woman about a challenge that seems to un ravel the problem.  In fact I feel it serves both myself and my husband much more when I work out an issue I’m having by confiding in a woman I highly respect, rather than putting all my issues on my husband.  He is a man, not a woman, he does not understand and should not understand what it’s like to be a woman, so why would I want to come to him for help in solving a womanly dilemma?  Believe me, I used to come to him with all of my dilemmas and it was no good for our marriage.  I believe in having open communication in a marriage, but a man is not designed like a woman is.

Personally I like a man to be a man, and a woman to be a woman.

In my life right now many of my friends are pregnant, having babies, and going through challanges in marriage.  More than ever I feeling a calling to help other woman.  I also see how our culture gives little support to the female stages of life.  Mothers get only weeks of paid maternity leave, it’s not a custom to help our new Mama’s after birth, and so they are left to do it all by themselves., and in our marriages we are supposed to have it all figured out.

In our group of friends we are setting out to change all that.  We have a group of woman that includes about 10 women.  Together we are helping bring meals after a Mama gives birth, helping with the siblings, watching each others kids during pregnancy so the Mama has a break, and this week we are having a couples group, together we will help each other in our marriages, give advice, share what works and doesn’t work for us.  Really we have no out line for the group yet, it will happen organically.

This is what this new world needs, a fresh prospective on helping and supporting one another as women.  We can’t expect to do it all alone, to create a life, a family, a marriage all by yourself.  But together we can truly create all of this and more.

Sending love you all my fellow sisters,

Guru Shakti

What Does Meat Really Do To My Body?

If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.  ~Paul McCartney

Most likely you’ve heard people talk about being a Vegetarian or a Vegan but has anyone ever really explained to you why we do it?

My family and I have been Vegan for almost 8 years and in that time my knowledge and understanding of Vegetarianism has expanded greatly.

I want to share the three top reasons NOT TO EAT MEAT and let me know what you think about this…

Firstly when you take a big bite of meat, whether it looks bloody or not, the blood from the animal get between the gum’s which sends of a chemical reaction in your brain.  This Chemical reaction stimulates fear and survival in your body.  You see the blood of the animal contains all the pain, fear, agony, and suffering that it went through in it’s painful life and while it was being brutally murder, now that blood is in your body and you can bet your body takes it on as it’s own suffering.  This is the very reason that people suggest that you eat more meat if you’re fatigued, of course you’re going to get a energy bust right after you eat meat, but what you’re really feeling is the need to survive.

Secondly although some historians and anthropologists say that man is historically omnivorous, our anatomical equipment  teeth, jaws, and digestive system  favors a fleshless diet. The American Dietetic Association notes that “most of mankind for most of human history has lived on vegetarian or near-vegetarian diets.”

And much of the world still lives that way. Even on most industrialized countries, the love affair with meat is less than a hundred years old. It started with the refrigerator car and the twentieth-century consumer society. But even with the twentieth century, man’s body hasn’t adapted to eating meat. The prominent Swedish scientist Karl von Linne states, “Man’s structure, external and internal, compared with that of the other animals, shows that fruit and succulent vegetables constitute his natural food.” The chart below compares the anatomy of man with that of carnivorous and herbivorous animals.

When you look at the comparison between herbivores and humans, we compare much more closely to herbivores than meat eating animals. Humans are clearly not designed to digest and ingest meat.

Meat-eaters: have claws

Herbivores: no claws

Humans: no claws

Meat-eaters: have no skin pores and perspire through the tongue

Herbivores: perspire through skin pores

Humans: perspire through skin pores

Meat-eaters: have sharp front teeth for tearing, with no flat molar teeth for grinding

Herbivores: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding

Humans: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding

Meat-eaters: have intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly

Herbivores: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.

Humans: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.

Meat-eaters: have strong hydrochloric acid in stomach to digest meat

Herbivores: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater

Humans: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater

Meat-eaters: salivary glands in mouth not needed to pre-digest grains and fruits.

Herbivores: well-developed salivary glands which are necessary to pre-digest grains and fruits

Humans: well-developed salivary glands, which are necessary to pre-digest, grains and fruits

Meat-eaters: have acid saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grains

Herbivores: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains

Humans: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains

Based on a chart by A.D. Andrews, Fit Food for Men, (Chicago: American Hygiene Society, 1970)

Clearly if humans were meant to eat meat we wouldn’t have so many crucial ingestive/digestive similarities with animals that are herbivores.

And Thirdly “Livestock’s Long Shadow,” livestock is a major player in climate change, accounting for 18 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions (measured in carbon dioxide equivalents). That’s more than the entire transportation system! Unfortunately, this incredibly important revelation has received only limited attention in the media.

Truly there is so much more I could write, so many more startling facts but now the choice is yours.  I love to answer questions about this topic, I love to share recipes and help new Vegetarians or Vegans get started.  I can remember wondering what I would eat, I had the image that all I could ever eat again was veggies, far from it, we eat the most flavor full food now, plus being a vegetarian isn’t what it used to be.

Please let me know if you need help.

You put a baby in a crib with an apple and a rabbit.  If it eats the rabbit and plays with the apple, I’ll buy you a new car.  ~Harvey Diamond.

Guru Shakti

I can still remember the first time I was introduced to the Oneness Blessing, it was at a Tony Robbins Seminar, he had learned how to give the blessing himself after witnessing a huge healing in his wife.  His wife was born with severe challenges with her equilibrium, in cars she would get sick, in plains even worse, and it was so hard to travel any where.  They tried everything but it wasn’t until someone told him about the Oneness blessing that all the changes occurred.  Up until this point Tony Robbins had little desire to try one of these spiritual things but after seeing his wife’s transformation he quickly became a big believer.

So at his event many blessing givers went through the isles giving blessings and for me it was a powerful begginging to a lot of changes I was going to go through in my life.  Since that time my husband Dr. Dan Ardebili has traveled to Fiji to go through the training to be a blessing giver, and we have been able to bring it to our friends and family.

So you may be wondering, “What is the Oneness Blessing?”  Allow me to explain.

The Oneness Blessing, through Grace, is a direct transfer of intelligent sacred energy which causes the heart to open, heals relationships, quiets the chatter of the mind, opens the doors to higher states of awareness and initiates a process of Awakening into Oneness where there is no longer a sense of separateness. All that remains is the awareness of reality as it is — the joy of being fully present in the moment. Whatever path of spiritual awakening you are on will be supported. This gift is for all of us, no matter our belief systems.

Together, we are raising the level of consciousness globally.

We begin with ourselves and through Oneness Blessings the ripple effect goes out to all of mankind. As consciousness is raised we can create together love and compassion for all, allowing the effects of the Oneness Blessing to flow out to all life on the planet and beyond. Our specific goal is to help raise the level of consciousness of our local communities. This will create a new-found compassion flowing in the hearts of our residents–which will in turn effect humanity as a whole. As Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” World peace does not happen outside of us. We have to be the peace we wish to see in the world.

The Oneness Movement is not affiliated with any religious or spiritual belief.

Experienced practitioners give Oneness Blessing–the transmission of divine intelligent energy–by placing their hands on a recipient’s head for a minute or so. The effects are cumulative, and can enhance physical healing; generate greater intimacy in relationship; promote material well-being, and, most significantly, may result in a spontaneous and effortless “awakening into oneness.”

You too can receive a blessing, or perhaps you want to become a Oneness Blessing Giver Yourself.  You can check out the Oneness University or look up people who give the blessing in your area, believe me there are always many people who give the blessing near.

Love and Light,

Guru Shakti
